Irene M. Dolezal, 75, formerly of 1402 Crescent Street and a resident of Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center died Thursday, October 17, 2002 at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday, October 21, 2002 at St. Wenseslaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Parish Vigil Service will be recited at 7PM . Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Irene was born March 19, 1927 in Iowa City the daughter of John J. and Mary (Svatos) Krall in Johnson County, Iowa. She married Frank Dolezal,Sr. on September 20, 1944. They later divorced and he died in 1991. She later met Merle Ihrig and they shared many years together, until his death in 1989.
She attended City High School and Brown’s Commercial College. Irene owned and operated Irene’s Bar in Iowa City and Don’s Tavern in Hills for many years, retiring in 1983.
Irene is survived by her children, Frank Dolezal, Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Iowa City, Iowa and her daughter, Sandra Duwa and her husband Tom of Riverside, Iowa. Five grandchildren: Bill Duwa and his wife Karla, Kate Duwa, Darin Dolezal, Tracy Jo Dolezal and Danny Dolezal and his wife Carmen. Two Great Grandchild and her half sister, Judy Shull and her husband Don of North Liberty.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merle Ihrig, two brothers, Ray and Herman.
