Edith Reilly Organ, 90, of 1902 Winston Drive, Iowa City died Saturday, September 22, 2001, at the Iowa City Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2001 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Reverend James Vrba officiating, with burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Tuesday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home & Crematorium with a Parish Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and Women of the Moose Memorial Services at 7:00 p.m. all at the funeral home.

Mrs. Organ was born in Springfield, Illinois, December 20, 1910, the daughter of Stella Hurt and Thomas W. Reilly. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and Brown Business College in Springfield, IL. She married Edward P. Organ at Sacred Heart Church in Peoria, Illinois March 4, 1929.

Mrs. Organ was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and the Catholic Daughters of America. She served as President of the VFW Auxiliary and as Deputy Grand Regent of the Women of the Moose. She worked as a clerk at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota and at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics until her retirement in 1975.

Her family includes three sons, Thomas E., Coralville, James M. and his wife Connie, Iowa City, and Gerald F. and his wife Cindy, Charlotte, North Carolina; and three daughters, Pat (Mrs. Cec) Huff, Mountain Home, Arkansas; Joan Smith, Iowa City, and Dr. Jean Donham, both of Iowa City. In addition 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as one sister, Molly Desch, Riverton, Illinois and one half-brother Elmer Melton, Springfield, Illinois. Numerous nieces and nephews survive as well. Her husband, one daughter, Jane, three grandsons, her parents, four sisters, three brothers, a daughter-in-law Mary Organ, and a son-in-law Cec Huff, and her stepfather Miles Melton, preceded her in death.
