Letha Alma Anciaux Cooper, age 90 of 4143 245th. St. NE, Solon died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at her home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2001 at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, with burial at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Letha Alma Anciaux was born December 19, 1910 in Rutledge, Missouri, the daughter of John and Inez Anciaux. She graduated from Rutledge High School in 1928 and from Nurses Training at St. Joseph College in Keokuk in 1932. She has worked in the nursing profession many years starting at the Heinz Veterans Hospital in Chicago from 1932 to 1940, from 1941 until 1945 at the University of Iowa Hospitals as a private duty nurse, from 1945 to 1955 also as a private duty nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, where she became head nurse in the Orthopedics and Pediatrics Departments in 1955 until 1963 at which time she became head of the Central Services Department at Mercy until retiring in 1971.

She married Don O. Cooper on September 4, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed south of Solon for many years. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1992.

Her family includes her daughter and husband: Donna and Gary Redlinger of Solon, two sons and their wives, Don O. Cooper II and his wife, Pat of Elk River, MN, and Robert A. Cooper and Bev of Crystal, MN; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; a brother, Audry Anciaux of Iowa City, and a sister, Elsie Paisley of Galesburg, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Cecil Anciaux and LeRoy Clair.
