Charley C. Cox, age 89 of 1516 Plum Street, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. There will be a time of visitation from 12:00 noon Friday until services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice or to the Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Mr. Cox was born July 3, 1912 in Emmetsburg, Iowa the son of William G. and Eva E. (Siddens) Cox. He attended rural Johnson County schools. On November 6, 1935 he married Velma M. Frauenholz in Cedar Rapids, having just celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. For many years he was employed at Carl Chadek Trucking in Iowa City.

Charley’s family includes his wife, Velma; two daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Lowell Weaver of Iowa City, and Doris and Edward N. Wilson of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Jeff Weaver, and Chris and her husband, Matt Stilwell all of Iowa City; and two great-grandchildren, Tavian and Nicholas Stilwell of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Debra Weaver, and brothers, Roy, Clarence and Vane Cox.
