Stanley John Cross, 88, of Iowa City, Iowa died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City from complication of a stroke.

Funeral service will be 10: 30 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2002 at First United Methodist Church, Iowa City, Iowa with Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorial to be made to the Izaak Walton League.

Mr. Cross was born on March 25, 1914 in Edwardsville, Illinois the son of Sydney and Clara Cross. He was raised in Hills, Iowa, where he worked for the Civil Conservation Corp before he moved to Iowa City. He married Kathleen M. Jensen on November 1, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa. Mr. Cross owned Stanley Cross Finish Carpentry Business. He was very active at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City and the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping all his life.

Mr. Cross’s family includes, his wife, Kathleen Cross of Iowa City, Iowa his daughter, Kathy Cross and her husband, Terry Allen of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, his son, Rick and his wife, Mary Cross of Iowa City, Iowa, his five grandchildren, Shane Cross, Caitlin Cross, Melanie Cross, Collin Allen and Trevor Allen, his sister, Dorothy of Iowa City, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sister.
