Irene Rose Sedlacek, age 83 of Oxford, died Thursday, October 11, 2002 following an extended illness at her home where she has lived since a child.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with the Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm today at Gay & Ciha Funeral
In addition, Cremation Service’s Oxford Chapel. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Also additional visitation from 12:30 p.m. until services at the church on Sunday. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford is caring for Irene’s services and her family.

Irene was born April 18, 1919, in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Adlassnig) Sedlacek. She attended rural Johnson County Schools. For many years, she cared for many families in the area assisting them in raising their families and keeping their homes for them. She has always had a passion for baking, selling her baked goods to many throughout the years. She has been affectionately known to all as the “Cookie Lady of Oxford”.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary all of Oxford.

Her family includes many nieces, nephews, including great and great-great nieces and nephews, special nieces Mary Ann Johnston of Livingston, TX, and Jackie Becicka of Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Lillian Broecher and Eleanor Dolezal, and brother, Orlo Sedlacek.
