John C. Ellsworth, 79, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Paul Akin officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10:30 am, Saturday until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church.

John was born September 4, 1927 in Atalissa, Iowa, the son of Earl and Fanny Martin Ellsworth. He was a graduate of Atalissa High School, Iowa City Commercial College and the Iowa Barber College. John served in the US Navy from 1944-1946. On June 4, 1950 he married Melva Johnson at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

John was a well-known Iowa City barber for 52 years. He owned and operated The Livery Barber Shop for much of the last four decades.

John was a member of First United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Iowa City Moose Lodge. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially time spent fishing and boating with his family.

John is survived by his wife Melva; two children, Jeff (Jacqueline Starr) Ellsworth of Seattle, WA. and Judy (John) Heller of Naperville, Illinois and their children, Katie and Gregory; numerous nieces and nephews; and his granddogs, Zoot and Bailey.

John was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
