John J. Schwaigert, 75, of 1718 Highland Avenue, Iowa City died on February 23, 2007, at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2007, at St. Patrick's Parish Hall, Iowa City, The Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez will Officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, March 2 from 4-7 P.M. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be at a later date. There will be a luncheon following the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name can be made to St Patrick's Building Fund, Hospice of Iowa City or the Iowa City Crisis Center.

John was born January 13, 1932 to Leo and Sarah (Dautremont) Schwaigert in Iowa City, Iowa. John graduated from City High and began working at Moore Business Forms. He worked at Moore’s for over 40 years. His work at Moore's was interrupted while he served in the United State's Army from September 16, 1952 to June 15, 1954. While serving in the Korean War he was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart. On January 12, 1957, John married Blanche (Liz) Dusterhoft in Lone Tree.

John was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Church.

His family includes his wife, Liz, one daughter, Laura (Stephen) Sinicropi of Greenville SC, and two sons, Matthew Schwaigert of Littleton, CO, and Luke (Missy) Schwaigert of Everett, WA: six grandchildren, Alyssa, Cara and Nick of Greenville and Chloe, Sophia and Kiona of Everett. One sister, Mary Helen (Robert) Martin of Cedar Rapids, IA and a number of nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George Schwaigert and Thomas Schwaigert.
