Dean R. Cole, 78, of rural Riverside died Monday, February 26, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City of complications from a stroke.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church in Hills with Rev. Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be at
St. Stanislaus Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Hills Community Center. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 8pm at St. Joseph’s Church, Hills, where a rosary will be recited at 4pm, and a Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Dean was born April 27, 1928 north of Coralville, in rural Johnson County. His parents,
Raymond R. and Harriet Huffman Cole operated Cole Dairy, which was the first dairy in this area. Dean was a 1945 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City. On April 20, 1950 he married Alice Sedlacek at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City.

Dean and his wife have been longtime Johnson County farmers. He loved farming and raising livestock. Dean was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Hills, where he was an usher and had served on the parish council. He had been a Liberty Township Trustee, served on both the Hills and Highland School Boards, and the St. Stanislaus Cemetery Board. Dean was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Hills Town and Country Club.

Dean had a great sense of humor and enjoyed attending auctions and playing euchre with friends.

Dean is survived by his wife Alice and their ten children, Ron (Shari) Cole of Riverside;
Kathy (Dave) Dalton Sr. of Hawthorne, FL.; Jolene (Andy) Colthurst of Washington;
Randy (Chris) Cole, Roger (Laurie) Cole, Rodney Cole, Robert Cole, and Rick (Julie) Cole, all of Riverside; Nancy (Scott) Hebl of Hills; and Mary Ellen (Joel) Yedlik of Lone Tree; twenty grandchildren, Heather, Dave Jr., Lacey, Josh, Lydia, Stacey, Jeremy. Carrie, Amanda, Nick, Kyle, Jacky, Kendal, Tiffany, Travis, Nicole, Tyler, Kimberly, Alex and Ashley; two great grandsons Cole and David III; one sister Harriett Mowery of Coralville.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter Kellie, one brother Raymond
