Blanche L. Dvorsky, 87 of rural Solon, died Monday, January 14, 2002 at the Lantern Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Coralville following a sudden illness.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2002 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a Catholic Society of Forester’s Rosary will be said at 3pm and a parish vigil service at 6pm. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Dvorsky was born March 25, 1914 in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Jacob and Louise (Haman) Kadera. She married Lawrence Dvorsky, September 6, 1939 in Iowa City. The couple farmed in the Solon area for many years. Lawrence died November 17, 1981. Blanche remained on their farm until a short time ago when she moved to the care center.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, National Catholic Society of Foresters, also a leader for girls Foresters, 3 year committeewoman for 4-H, member of the Johnson County Pork and Beef Association. She and her husband enjoyed travelling around the country.

Blanche’s family includes, a daughter and her husband, Judy and Jim Van Norden of Coralville; son, Jack Dvorsky of Solon; four grandchildren, Robert and his wife, Linda Maier, Cindy and her husband, Bill Smith, Larry Maier, and Kristy Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Steven, Brett, Victoria, William, Shaina, and Dakota.

Her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death.
