Esther Marie Edwards, 85 of 2996 Eagle Avenue N.W., Oxford, Iowa died Friday, January 25, 2002 at home of a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at Oxford United Methodist Church, Oxford with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Everyone is invited for a luncheon that will be held from 12:00 noon until service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 28 at Oxford United Methodist Church. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford is caring for her services. Memorials may be given to Oxford United Methodist Church or to First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

Mrs. Edwards was born September 8, 1916 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Charles P. and Mary C. (Herring) Hornung. Esther graduated from Iowa City High in 1934. She also completed Irish Business School course work in Iowa City. Esther worked as a seamstress for Kelly Cleaners for several years after school. She married Raymond G. Edwards December 16, 1950 in Iowa City. Esther was a clerical worker for the University of Iowa Oakdale Medical Lab for twelve years. She later was a nurses aide at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center from 1973 to 1980. She has lived in the Iowa City and Oxford Area with her family throughout her entire life.

Mrs. Edwards was a plus fifty year member of First United Methodist Church of Iowa City and attended Oxford United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Corona Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #297. Esther enjoyed gardening, flowers, wild life, and her cats.

Her family includes her daughter, Catherine Edwards Busch of Oxford, Iowa; sister, Marjorie C. Scott of Sherman Oaks, California; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
