Philip L. Fisher Jr., age 60 of 441 2nd. Avenue, Iowa City died suddenly at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Wednesday, January 23, 2002.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm today at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Phil’s name.

Mr. Fisher was born May 5, 1941 in Kossuth County, Iowa, the son of Philip L. Fisher Sr. and Katherine Zaugg Fisher. He graduated from West Bend High School, and attended Iowa State University in Ames and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. On February 28, 1965 he married Barbara Jo Christensen at the Methodist Church in West Bend. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1965, where Phil managed George’s Gourmet until fire destroyed the business. He then became employed at Sears In Iowa City for many years retiring in 1992. For a number of years he sold real estate being associated with Dick Davin Real Estate. He and his family lived in the Iowa City area until 1978 when they moved to Lone Tree where they resided until moving back to Iowa City in 1995.

He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree where he had served as an Elder and Deacon on session. He had served on the Lone Tree School Board, had been active in Iowa City Community Theatre. He enjoyed travelling, fishing, cooking, and just being able to fix and make anything work. Many will remember him as just a great guy.

His family includes his wife, Barbara; two sons, Philip L. “Pip” Fisher III and his wife, Carol of Lakewood, CO, and Steven Fisher of Iowa City; two sisters, Lois Lloyd of Mason City, Iowa, and Eileen Hoover and her husband, Olin of Yorba Linda, CA.

His parents, a daughter, Melissa Ann Fisher, and two brothers, Bob and Harold Fisher, preceded Philip in death.
