Rex Ambrose Fleming, 83, of 320 East Washington Street, Iowa City, Iowa died peacefully at his home Thursday, April 11, 2002.

Funeral mass will be 10: 00 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2002, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City, Iowa with Reverend Kenneth Kuntz celebrating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary and 7:30 p.m. Vigil. A general memorial fund has been established in Rex’s name.

Mr. Fleming was born on January 25, 1919 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Harry P. and Ruth Davenport Fleming. He attended Glenwood State Schools in Glenwood, Iowa. He was employed at the Johnson County Care Facility for over thirty-three years as the laundryman and the night watchman. Rex was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Iowa City, where he was on the Parish Greeting Committee. He volunteered at the Iowa City Senior Dining. Rex enjoyed all kinds of sports.

Rex family includes; his sister, Ida and her husband, Jim Walsh of Lone Tree, Iowa, his two brothers, George Fleming of Muscatine and Bill Fleming of California, many nieces and nephews, his godfather, Melvin F. Dvorsky of Iowa City, Iowa, Melvin took care of Rex for over forty years and they took care of each other, and he will be greatly missed. his friend, Clarice Brennan.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
