Stephan LeRoy Foss, age 54 of 2801 Hwy 6 East, Iowa City died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from complications of diabetes.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the Reverend Brett Best of the First Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa officiating. Burial with Military Honors by Walter Johnson Post No. 721 of the Coralville American Legion at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Stephan’s name.

Stephan was born August 3, 1947 in Washington, Iowa the son of Donald S. and Maye Belle (Brown) Foss. He graduated from Washington High School in 1965, and attended college in Pella. He served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. On November 6, 1976 he married Nancy Sue Hogan in Iowa City. He worked as the publication coordinator for Blooming Prairie here in Iowa City, prior to that he was with Montgomery Wards Company in Iowa City for over eighteen years. Steve was active in the Johnson County Republican Party, serving as Chairperson for a time; his passions in life were the outdoors, animals, fishing, and the technological age of computers.

His family includes his wife, Nancy; mother, Maye Belle Foss of Washington; sisters, Cymie and her husband, Richard Wehr of
Washington, and Kathy Foss of Iowa City and her special friend Kevin Clough of Davenport; two nieces, Karmell Wehr and Melanie Wehr; Nancy’s family includes, her father, John V. Hogan of Manchester; her brothers, John and his wife, Barbara Hogan of Manchester, Steve Hogan and special friend, Casey Harms of Cedar Rapids, David and his wife, Laura Hogan of Garden City, MI; sisters, May Kay Hogan of Iowa City, Eunice and her husband, Michael Hasselbring of Jeffersonville, IN, Janice and her husband, Jim Gude of Papillion, NE, and Mona and her husband, Doug Rans of Manchester.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and a mother-in-law, Virginia Hogan.
