Illene Joy Gagel, age 47 of 951 22nd. Avenue, Coralville, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2002 at the Grace Community Church in rural North Liberty, with the Reverend Paul Bult officiating. Burial will be at the Ridgewood Cemetery in rural North Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday with the family present from 4 to 6:00 p.m., at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City and after 12 noon on Wednesday until services at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Ilene’s memory to the American Cancer Society, or Precious Moments Foundations c/o Kriste Schult @ PSC@ Box 10129, APOAE 09012. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Illene’s services and her family.

Illene was born January 15, 1955 in Council Bluffs, Iowa the daughter of Hubert and Virginia (Mulligan) Price. She graduated from Denison High School, and later from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. For many years she was a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City before having to retire because of health reasons in 1996. On February 14, 1993 she married Dale Gagel in Coralville.

She was an avid collector of Precious Moments items, belonging to the You Brighten My Eastern Iowa Field of Dreams Collectors club in Eastern Iowa. She also enjoyed cross stitching for herself and giving away to others her fine pieces of work.

Her family includes her husband, Dale; two sons, James P. Behrman of Coralville, and Kurt Gagel of Iowa city; brother and his wife, Donald and Karen Price of Denison, Iowa and a half sister, Virginia Peterson, of Ocala, FL; and aunt, Ruth Boell of Manilla, Iowa, and many friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, William Behrman.
