James F. Funk, 93 formerly of 903 Webster Street, Iowa City, Iowa died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa with Reverend Ruth Blayer and Reverend Bob Dean officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Mr. Funk was born on October 18, 1908 in Tiffin, Iowa the son of George and Ada (Newmire) Funk. He married Irene Maxey on January 1, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa. Mr. Funk was employed at the University of Iowa General Store as a clerk for over twenty five years.

He was a fifty year life member of the Eagles Lodge No. 695 in Iowa City, Iowa. He worked for the Citizen Conservation Corp.

Jim’s family includes; his children, Beverly and her husband, Robert Lloyd of Grinnell, Ronald Funk of North Liberty, Karen Kennedy of Iowa City, Raymond Funk of Iowa City, his daughter-in-law, Lynne Funk of Yorba Linda, CA, Linda Funk, of Iowa City, Lonnie and his wife, Cathy Funk of Dacula, GA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Funk and his companion, Cleo Studt of Iowa City, and Cletus “Dave” and his wife, Betty Funk of Iowa City; one sister, Lottie and her husband, Bernard “Bud” Marshall of Iowa City.

Mr. Funk was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene on March 30, 1991; one son, Randy Funk; grandaughter,Mary Elizabeth Kennedy, three brothers, Fred Funk, John Funk, and Donald Funk; three sisters, Hazel White, Edith Shimon and Marilyn Funk.
