Kenneth “Kenny” Hemsted age 68 of Hills died at his home on Monday (05/27/2002) morning following an apparent heart attack. Graveside service will be on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be given to the Mercy Heart Center in Iowa City or the Earhart Cemetery Fund.

Kenny was born on September 12, 1933 in Iowa City the son of Donald L. and Alyce Fountain Hemsted. He attended Iowa City Schools and graduated from City High. He served his country during the Korean War and married Lavada Sweet on October 25, 1960 in Iowa City. In 1965 they bought the family farm where they have lived since. Kenny worked with Gerald Goodrich Construction in Marengo as a brick mason for over thirty years. He loved his family, enjoyed raising pigs, going to auctions and playing solitaire.

His family includes his wife: Lou, son: Kyle and wife Stacey all of Hills, daughter: Lynda and husband Jerry Short of Riverside, seven grandchildren; Alexis Hemsted, J.D. and Harley Short, Robyn and Lauren Hemsted, step grandsons Joe and Justin Short, a sister; Ruth Ann Burk of Murray.

His parents, son Keith and Brother Larry preceded him in death.
