Forrest F. Hickman, 82, of 1101 Essex Street, Iowa City, Iowa died in his sleep, Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center, Coralville, Iowa after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to donor choice.

Mr. Hickman was born on June 9, 1919 in Rembrandt, Iowa the only child of William and Lillie Kemp Hickman. He grew up and was educated there graduating from Rembrandt High School in 1936. Mr. Hickman graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1941, and then entered the US Armed Forces there he served 54 months in during World War II. He married Vivian Tuttle on June 3, 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa. He returned to Iowa and spent a year in secondary education before moving to Ames to pursue a degree in poultry husbandry, graduating in 1948. After a number of years in the poultry business, he returned to teaching, first at Dunkerton, Iowa, then after moving to Iowa City, Iowa at Iowa City City High School where he was a science teacher from 1965 to 1983. He received a master’s degree in Science Education from the University of Iowa in 1967. Mr. Hickman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on several boards over the last 35 years.

Mr. Hickman family include his wife, Vivian Hickman of Iowa City, his son, David and his wife, Lynn of Aurelia, Iowa his two daughters, Iris and her husband, Dean Baird of Normal, Illinois, Stephanie of Madison, Wisconsin, his five grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, Gregory Rufenacht of Rockford, Illinois, Roger Baird of Normal, Illinois, Jeanette Hickman of Kissimmee, Florida, Jon Hickman of St. Paul, Minnesota and Joel Hickman of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his two great grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Rufenacht.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
