Joan Luvae Hills age 66 of West Branch died on Monday, May 6 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City. Burial will be held at a later time. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Iowa City, in lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America.
Joan was born on November 15, 1935 in Johnson County the daughter of Willis and Luvae Mathes Stutsman. She attended Iowa City Schools and graduated from City High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Joan married Duane Hills on October 23, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Along with being a mother and wife she worked for C.H. Wilson Transport and the Institute for Social and Economic Development in Iowa City. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of West Branch, the A.B.W.A., the Glee Club, Coffe Club and North Scott Social Club. Joan loved spending time with her granddaughter, golfing, cooking , canning and was a Master Gardener.
Her family includes her husband Duane of West Branch, two daughters; Angela and Trevor Foss and their daughter Gabriella; Lisa Hills and husband Rick Fiman and sons Ben and Mike all of Minneapolis, Mn., a cousin and special friend Dorothy Tesdell of Sharon Center, Iowa.
Her parents; an infant son John and a son Steven preceded her in death.
