Gladys M. Hopkins, age 83 of 121 2nd Street, Hills, died Monday, February 25, 2002 at the Edmond Medical Center, Edmond, OK following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.

Gladys was born January 27, 1919 in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil and Clara (Rayner) Mullinnix. She graduated from Lone Tree High School. On June 2, 1940 she married Byron “Barney” The couple owned and operated Byron Hopkins Enterprises, which they were involved in developing real estate and in the building profession in this area. Barney died on June 28, 1985. Gladys continued to manage the business for years to come.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose, and a very proud member of KOPS for over twenty years. For those who knew Gladys you would know her passion for dancing, music, traveling and her collection of American antiques, and of course her great sense of humor.

Her family includes three daughters, Claudia and her husband, Gary Gaul of Edmond, OK, Pamela Patterson of Seal Beach, CA, and Janet and her husband, Daniel Tedesco of Seal Beach, CA; two grandchildren, Eric Schnoebelen and Therese Hood; two great-grandsons, Aaron Schnoebelen and Byron Hood; three step-grandchildren, Gary Gaul Jr, Gwen Skinner, and Gina Moses; two step-great-grandchildren, Megan Skinner and Danae Moses; and a sister, Lucille Miller of Iowa City, nieces and nephews, Clarissa Miller, Shirley Ranshaw, Carolyn Hammer, Linda Milder, and Patricia Thomas.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Marcella Thomas.
