John F. “Frank” Kuddes, age 63 of 2316 Nevada Avenue, Iowa City died Monday, April 22, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:30pm and a parish Rosary at 8pm. There will also be visitation on Thursday at the funeral home from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited for a time of fellowship and lunch to be held at the church’s parish hall following the services at the cemetery. A continued celebration of Frank’s life will be held at the VFW Hall at 609 Highway 6 east in Iowa City following the reception at the church. Memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice, American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City are caring for Frank’s services and his family.

Frank was born June 13, 1938 in Holbrook, Iowa the son of Norman and Bridget (Carney) Kuddes. He graduated from Parnell High School in 1956. After high school Frank worked for Metro Pavers of Iowa City. He later was co-owner of Iowa City Drywall until December of 1971. He then worked for Protein Blenders for about six years before his employement in the Sheet Metal Shop of the University of Iowa Physical Plant until his retirement in 2001. Frank married Kay Lister, July 8, 1989.

His family includes his wife, Kay Kuddes; three children from a previous marriage, two daughters, Jackie and her husband, Josh Klingler of Peoria, IL; and Kim Kuddes and Carol Wehr of Palm Harbor FL; son and his wife, John and Suzanne Kuddes of Iowa City; step-daughter, Rhonda Fatla of Chicago, IL; two brothers and their wives, Norman and Bev Kuddes of Williamsburg, and Harold and Carol Kuddes of Center Point, IA; two sisters and their husbands, Jan and Dick Hendrickson of Brooklyn, IA, and Mary and Harvey Horn of Gibson, IA; six grandchildren, Kristen and Hilary Meyers of Iowa City, Dustin and Scott Meyers of Peoria, and Nicole and Jared Kuddes of Iowa City, one great-grandson, Logan Grabin of Iowa City; three step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Lillian and Lindsey Fatla; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Annie Myers.
