Edith M. Lacina, 85, formerly of 3770 Osage Street, Iowa City, Iowa died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a long illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 27, 2002 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Alzheimer Research and Special Olympics.

Mrs. Lacina was born on September 24, 1916 in Newport Township, Johnson County the daughter of Joseph and Clara Aicher Hotka. She taught school in a one room school house before she got married. Edith married Lawrence Lacina on February 20, 1945 in Iowa City, Iowa. She worked at the Catalogue department at Wards for over fifteen years. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary Society, Farm Bureau Women, 4-H, and quilting for Goodwill fundraisers.

Mrs. Lacina’s family includes, her children, Anne and her husband, Ivan Webber of West Des Moines, Iowa, Janet and her husband, Gerry Carlson of Arlington, Washington, Dale and his wife, Mary Lacina of Davenport, Iowa, Laura and her husband, Chris Swiser of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Clarine and her husband, Jerry Halvorsen of Coralville, Iowa, Chuck Lacina of Iowa City, Iowa, her eleven grandchildren, Sarah, Justin, Erika, Kristin, Bridget, Shaun, Adam, Nicole, Nathan, Tamsen, and Jake, one great grandson, Alex; one sister, Edna Kadera of Iowa City, Iowa; one brother, Ray Hotka of The Dalles, Oregon.

Mrs. Lacina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence in 1998; her granddaughter, Jennifer Halverson, and her brother, Wes Hotka.
