Julie Catherine Leonard, age 39 of 310 Oberlin, Iowa city died Thursday, May 9, 2002 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa following a sudden illness.

No funeral services are planned, Julie’s wish was to be involved in the Deeded Body program through the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Systems Unlimited Foundation @ 1556 S. 1st. Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa 522440. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City are caring for Julie’s family and her arrangements.

Julie was born August 15, 1962, one of twin daughters to Benny and Mary (Smith) Leonard. She graduated from West High School in 1981. Julie has been in the Systems Unlimited Program since 1981. She has been employed by Rural Employment Alternative in Conroy, Iowa.

One of Julie’s passions in life has been participating in the Special Olympics each year, having gone on to state competition many of those years.

Her family includes her parents, Benny and Mary Leonard of Bella Vista, Arizona; sisters, Pat and her husband, Ken Piontek of Reston, VA, and her twin, Janet of Iowa City; two brothers and their wives, Tom and Kathie Leonard of Cape Coral, FL, and Matt and Kris Leonard of Iowa City.
