John A. Lindsey age 52 of 1406 Ash St., Iowa City, died at University Hospitals on March 11, following a massive stroke. He had been waiting for a heart transplant. There will be no visitation; his cremains will be buried at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. John had arranged for the gift of his organs to others. Memorials may be given in John’s name to a charity of the Donor’s choice.

John was born on March 19, 1949 in Iowa City to John E. and Beverly Bringolf Lindsey. He attended Iowa City Schools and graduated from City High in 1967. He received a scholarship to the University Of Iowa College Of Art and later attended Kirkwood Community College in Business Administration. He worked as an assistant service manager at Winebrenner/Dreusicke Ford and then moved to Park Rapids, Minnesota. where he managed a video store. After a major heart attack in 1988 he moved back to Iowa City and had been under the care of the cardiology and transplant departments at University Hospitals.

John was an Eagle Scout, member of the Order of the Arrow, and had received the God and Country Award. He served as assistant Scout Master for Troop 203 until his move to Minnesota. He was an artist, a musician, an avid reader of history and loved fishing and boating.

John is survived by his mother, two brother’s Edward and Mary of rural Wellman and Charles and his domestic partner Zeke Yusof of Chicago, two aunt’s Mrs. Barbara J. Powell of King George, Virginia., and Mrs. Dorothy E. Nead of Manchester, Iowa., along with several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and twin brothers. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City are caring for John’s arrangements
