Cornelia Fritz Maack, age 88 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Tuesday, January 16, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Robert Dean officiating. There will be no visitation, private family committal services will be held at a later date at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Memorial donations can be made the First United Methodist Church of Iowa City.

Cornelia was born November 29, 1913 in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of Dr. Carl and Edna K. (Lauenstein) Fritz. She graduated from High School in Mascoutah, IL, attended Mac Murray College in Jacksonville, IL, and received her bachelors and master’s degree in music from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in voice and piano. On October 26, 1940 she married Milton F. Maack at Bunker Hill, IL. She was a voice, piano, and choral director at Bellevue Twsp. High School, Bellevue, IL, private piano and voice instructor in Iowa County, choral director at HLV school district, retiring from the school system in 1975 and from private instruction in 1978. She and her husband lived many years in rural Iowa County west of Williamsburg. Milton died in 1986, in December of 1987 she moved the Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

She was a member of Victor and Williamsburg Methodist Churches, and the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, Active in the Women’s groups at all of theses church, former member of the NEA and ISEA.

She was mom to Thomas G. Maack and his wife, Mary Lynn Maack of Milan, IL; grandmother to Kristin and her husband, Darryl Howard, Kelly Maack, Tom Maack Jr. and his wife, Kami Maack; six great-grandchildren, brother and his wife, Dr. Herbert C. and Margery Fritz of Decatur, IL; brother-in-law: Arthur H. Maack and his wife, Emma Mary Maack of Tonica, IL; four nephews and one niece.

Her parents, husband, and a great-grandson preceded Cornelia in death.
