Lance E. “Porky” Martin, age 31 of 313 Cherokee Trail, Iowa City died suddenly Friday, February 22, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Timothy Snart officiating. Burial will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Porky was born February 10, 1971 in Iowa City the son of LuVerne Martin Sr. and Jean Delay Martin. He attended schools in Lone Tree, Iowa City area and Davenport. For many years he has worked in the construction profession as a carpenter for a number of area contractors.

He was a member of the ASA Racing Association, was on the Gogel Racing Team, racing at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed playing sports, especially softball, and avid Dallas Cowboys Football fan and loved his pets.

His family includes his mother and step-father, Jean and Donald Stoddard of Iowa City, father, LuVerne Martin Sr. of Davenport; brothers, LuVerne Martin Jr. of Iowa City, LeRoy and Leland Martin both of Sac City, Lanny Martin of Iowa City, and John Lyions Jr. of McCausland, IA; sister, Kandra Kay and her husband, Kirk Blumenshein of Orien, IL; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Poggenpohl of McCausland, IA; 3 step-brothers, 3 step-sisters, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
