Dorothea McGinnis, age 90 formerly of Iowa City died Friday, March 8, 2002 at a care center in Amarillo, TX following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Private graveside committial service will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be a gathering time for family and friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family wishes that any memorial donations be made to either St. Stephens United Methodist Church @4600 S. Western Amarillo, TX 79109 or Olivia’s Angels c/o Baptist Saint Anthony’s Hospice and Life Enrichment Center @ P.O. Box 950 Amarillo, TX 79176-0001.

Dorothea was born July 29, 1911 in Providence, IL the eldest daughter of seven children born to Dr. and Mrs. Jacob Armstrong Swisher. She graduated from the State University of Iowa with a B.S. degree in Commererce in June of 1934. On August 4, 1934 she married Clifford Folsom.

A devoted wife and mother, Dorothea moved coast to coast with her husband and children to several different bases during WWII until Cliff was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. After the war she was an active member of the A.A.U.W. and was a Past Regent of the Penn-Elk (PA) Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. The past 50 years she lived in Ridgeway and Greensbug, PA, Edwards, MO, North Port, FL and Amarillo, TX.

Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Eileen and Dave McCall of Austin, TX, a son and his wife, Bob and Sandi McGinnis of Amarillo, TX; seven grandchidlren, Kathy Barnes, Carolyn Hubby, Connie McCall, Michael McGinnis, Marni Warner, Mark McGinnis, and Matt McGinnis; seven great-grandchildren, Savina McGinnis, Adriana McGinnis, Samatha Barnes, Ian Barnes, Matthew Hubby, Megan Hubby, and Wesley Hubby; brothers and sisters, Fern Becker of Hendersonville, TN, Lois Duncan of Knoxville, TN, William Swisher of North Port, FL, Esther Preslar of Hickory, NC, Helen Kummings of Englewood, FL, and Charles Swisher of Iowa City.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford on November 26, 1972, and a grandson, Bruce McCall.
