Leslie “Nick” Nicola 62, of 1415 Marcy Street, Iowa City, Iowa died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at his home from complication of cancer.

Private funeral services will be held at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, Iowa with Reverend Judy Gingerich. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with Iowa City Hospice.

Mr. Nicola was born August 6, 1939 in Washington, Iowa the son of J. Robert and Ethel Thompson Nicola. He graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1957. Mr. Nicola worked for Owens Brush until he started to with the Iowa City Fire Department until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked for several years as a school bus driver for the Iowa City Community School District. He married Nina Karr on August 1, 1981 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mr. Nicola’s family includes his wife, Nina Nicola of Iowa City, Iowa, his two daughters, Lisa Nicola of Charlevoix, Michigan, Andrea Nichola-Meyer and her husband, Dr. Tom Meyer of Lafayette, Indiana, his son, Robert and his wife, Laura Nicola of Coralville, Iowa his two step-daughters, Kendra Martin and Jill and her husband, Virgil Gingerich, his mother, Ethel Nicola of Coralville, Iowa, his two grandchildren, his five step-grandchildren, his two brothers, Dennis and his wife, Sherry Nicola of Lone Tree, Iowa and Marvin and his wife, Sherie Nicola of Davenport, Iowa, his sister, Maxine and her husband, Jack Bertling of Nixon, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Donna Lou Nicola, his son, Cole Nicola, his brother, Robert, and his father, J. Robert.
