James O. Osburn, 82, formerly of Iowa City, died Wednesday,
December 26, 2001 at Coventry Village, Sterling IL after a long illness.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Satruday, January 5, 2002 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Iowa City. A memorial has been established in his name. The Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for his services.

He was born in Arkansas, the son of Lawrence R. and Ollie (Frances) Osburn. He attendedjunior college in Flint and the University of Michigan, receiving a Ph.D. in
chemical engineering. He served in the Navy in 1945-46. He was a professor
of chemical engineering at the University of Iowa from 1946 until his retirement in 1985.

He married Ina Cox in 1942. She died in 1993. He married Isabel Kneer in
1994, and she died in 1995. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. He was active in the Iowa Mountaineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, having received the Citizen Ch.E. Award, the Voices of Experience Chorus, and the Boy Scouts of America.

His family includes a sister, Evelyn Hupp of Wofford Heights; CA; 3 children,
Nancy (Tom) Potter of Sterling, Dr. Stephen (Katheleen) Osburn of Silverado,
CA, David (Bev) Osburn of Pinole, CA; 9 grandchildren, Loren (Brenda) Lilly,
Lance (Brianna) Lilly, Sinda Osburn, David Osburn, Laura (John) Francis,
Cassandra (Rich) Morris, Jackson Potter, John Potter, and Danny Osburn; and 6
great grandchildren, Caitlin Lilly, Cameron Lilly, Alyssa Francis, Zachary
Francis, Drew Morris, and Trey Morris.
