Helen Pottorff, age 81, of 505 9th Ave, Coralville died of pancreatic Cancer on November 19, 2001, at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City. Helen donated her body to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department's Deeded Body Program. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 23, 2001, at 3 pm at the First Christian Church in Iowa City. The family will greet visitors and friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Iowa City or the Bloomfield Christian Church in Bloomfield, Iowa.
Ida "Helen" Pottorff was born February 29, 1920, in Bloomfield, the Daughter of Albert and Ina Sampson Fox. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Ottumwa. On November 7, 1942, she married Verne W. Pottorff in Popular Bluff, Missouri. From 1950 until 1967 she worked as a nurse at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. In 1967 the family moved to Iowa City where Helen worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City until she retired in 1982. She was a member the First Christian Church in Iowa City and was an avid card player. She loved to play duplicate bridge.
Survivors include two daughters: Sue Ann and husband Steven Peck, of Ames,
Sandra and husband Wayne Mason of Bloomfield, one son: Michael and wife Margery Pottorff, of Coralville; grandchildren: Aaron and Emily Peck, Sarah and husband David Cline, David Mason, Scott and Cree Pottorff, one great-grandson: Mason Cline, and one brother: Curtis and wife Ardis Fox of Bloomfield.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and infant brother and her
husband.
