Dorothy M. Powell, age 80 of 12 Green Mountain Drive, Iowa City, died Sunday, November 18, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2001 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Timothy D. Malek. Burial will be at the Green Mound Cemetery in Wayland, Iowa . Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Dorothy was born February 3, 1921 in Trenton, Iowa the daughter of Jonas and Elsie (Lane) Egli. She graduated from high school and went on to attend Iowa Wesleyan in Mt. Pleasant. For a number of years she taught school taught schools in Trenton. She married Howard Frank Powell. For many years she worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City and from 1955 to 1979 she and her husband owned and operated Powell Hauling.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in Junior Missionary Club, and a member of the Sweet Adelaide’s, Iowa City chapter for many years.

Her family includes two daughters and their husbands, Martha “Marty” and Michael Thiltgen of Fisher, IL, and Susan and Thomas Haman of Coralville; one son, Jeffrey “Dozer” Powell; six grandchildren, Jacob, Kacie, Carrie, Haillie, Natasha, and Megan; two sisters, Esther Griffith of Decorah, and Lois Titus of Ventura, CA; and a great Aunt, Roberta Grannis of Burbank, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Edwin Egli.
