Harold Edward Rogers 1917-2002

Harold Edward Rogers age 84 of 717 Brown Street died on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, burial with military rites provided by the Coralville American Legion Post # 721 and assisted by other local organizations will be in Oakland Cemetery .Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund in Harold’s name has been established.
Harold was born on June 30, 1917 in Des Moines the son of Roy and Bessie Eva Goss Rogers. He attended Des Moines Schools and Horace Mann and City High School in Iowa City graduating in 1936. He was enrolled for one year at the University of Iowa where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. and served his county during WWII. He enlisted on May 21, 1942 at Fort Des Moines and served until October 20, 1945 with an Honorable Discharge at Camp Polk, La. Harold received the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal along the EAMET Ribbion.
He married Dolores Eichler on March 16, 1942. Harold worked at Stillwells Paint Store in Iowa City until becoming an Iowa City Fireman. He was a firemen for 19 years until a disability forced him to retire, he returned to Stillwells and was in charge of the picture framing department. Harold loved fishing and hunting as well as wood working.
His family includes his wife Dolores: two sons Joe and wife Dawn all of Iowa City: Jon and wife Mary of Urbana, Ill; one daughter Connie Maske and husband John Archer of Champaign, Il; a daughter in-law Laura Wiegert of Pecatonica, Il; nine grandchildren Martin and wife Diane Maske, Matthew and wife Phuong Maske, Chrissy and husband Tim Harapat, Erin Rogers, Randy Rogers, Tamara and husband Kevin LeGrand, Adam Rogers, Tori Rogers and Heath Rogers; four great-grandsons; Kurt Maske, Kyle LaGrand, Tyler Harapat and Trevor Harapat; one step great-granddaughter Ceanna Verry along with seven nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son Richard in 1999; granddaughter Kyle in 2002; an infant granddaughter Rachel in 1991; and one sister Mildred.
