Erma M. Sentman, age 90, formerly of rural North Liberty, presently living at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City died Monday, September 16, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the North Liberty First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Alicia Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In leiu of flowers a memorial fund has been establiahsed in Erma’s memory. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Erma’s services and her family.

She was born February 23,1912, in West Branch, Iowa the daughter of Niels and Agnes (Pedersen) Madsen. She graduated from West Branch High School, and received her Teaching Certificate from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. Prior to her marriage she taught schools for two years in both West Branch and North Liberty. On June 8, 1935 she married Leonard Sentman in West Branch. The couple farmed in the North Liberty area for over fifty-years. Leonard died July 2, 1999. Later that year she moved to Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

Erma was an active member of the North Liberty First United Methodist Church where she was involved with WSCS, UMW having served as a district officer, member of the Whip-poor-will club, and a former Johnson County 4-H Leader.

Her family includes two daughters, Beverly Joan and her husband, David Anciaux of Sun Lakes, AZ, Mary Ellen Campbell of Iowa City; five grandsons and their wives, Steven and Susan Anciaux, Brian and Jeanne Anciaux, Philip and Melissa Anciaux, Brett and Heather Campbell, and Dan and Brandi Campbell; five great-grandchildren, Joe, Meghan, Liana, Michael, and Matthew Anciaux.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Kathryn Lea Sentman; son-in-law, James Campbell; five brothers and one sister.
