Marvin D. Stevens, age 68 of 4236 Lloyd Avenue, SE, Iowa City died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from complications of a ruptured appendix.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at the Hope United Methodist church in Iowa City with the Reverend Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in Marvin’s memory to Hope United Methodist Church.

Marvin was born January 15, 1934 in Centerville, Iowa the son of William and Ada (Daniels) Stevens. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army following graduation for a couple of years. On July 29, 1961, he married Wanda J. Carr in Maxwell, Iowa. Marvin has worked for Western Electric Company in Des Moines, Northwestern Bell and later AT&T both in Iowa City before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Telephone Pioneers, Mercy Lifeline, and the American Legion.

His family includes his wife, Wanda; sons, David and his wife, Leslie Stevens of Morris, IL, and Dennis Stevens of Iowa City; daughters and their husbands, Darla and Gregg Kilburg of Tipton, and Dee and Todd Carter of North Liberty; eight grandchildren, Brianne, Jake, Brandon, Allison, Shelby, Logan, Parker, and Austin; sister, Margery Seams of Seymour, Iowa; and brother, Wayne and his wife, Peggy Stevens of Bartlesville, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Walter Stevens.

Marvin so loved his family as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and just being outdoors with his family.
