Mamie Thomas, age 100 formerly of Rural Route No. 3, Iowa City died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at the Iowa City Rehab and Health Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 12 noon until services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Mamie’s services and her family.

Mamie was born February 8, 1902, in Scott Township of Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Otto and Mamie (Ereth) Nass. She graduated from University High School and attended Irish’s Business College in Iowa City. On October 16, 1924, she married Maynard Thomas in Cedar Rapids. For a number of years she worked as a secretary and stenographer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and other places in Iowa City.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City.

Her family includes nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, one son, Richard in 1963; and a sister, Edna Benjamin in 1984.
