Mark Robert Tomash, age 41 of Oxford died at his home Saturday, September 15, 2001 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oxford with Military Honors provided by the 133rd. Air Control Squadron of the National Guard. Visitation will from from 3 to 8pm Monday at the Church where a Parish Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m, and a Parish Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m.. In Lieu of Flowers memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice. The Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Mark’s services.

Mark was born June 27, 1960 in Iowa City, the son of Leo E. and Carol J. (Stockman) Tomash. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1978. He joined the United States Air Force where he learned the electronics field. Following his service he attended Kirkwood Community College, again the electronics field. He has been employed by the National Weather Service first in Cedar Falls, then the Des Moines Office, and then the office in Springfield, MO until his health forced him to retire this year when he and his wife moved back to Oxford. He was married to Michelle L. Dwight October 14, 1995 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.

Mark was honourably discharged earlier this year from the 133 Air Control Squadron, of the Iowa Air National Guard after over eighteen years of service to his country. He enjoyed pheasant and squirrel hunting, playing cards with his brothers. While working for the National Weather Services he received a number of regional and national honours for his service.

His family includes his wife, Michelle; parents, Leo and Carol Tomash of Oxford, brothers, Mike and his wife, Tammie Tomash of Marion, Bill and his wife, Patty Tomash of Tiffin, and Tony Tomash of Oxford; grandmothers, Rita Stockman of Oxford, and Margaret Tomash of Oxford; and many nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by a brother, Chuck, and grandfathers, Robert Stockman and Antone Tomash.

Mark will be remembered by all for his sage advice, love of family and compassion for others. He and his family were truly humbled by the tremendous outpouring of prayers and support from the many people who knew and loved him. His life was too short, but filled with love and many blessings. Special thanks to Reverend Edmond Dunn for all the prayers and time spent with the family, and a words cannot express our feeling for the good people of the Iowa City Hospice for the loving care they have provided our Mark, we will always remember you!
