David M.E.Vickroy, 37, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Iowa City, died while visiting his family in North Augusta, South Carolina on Friday, November 23, 2001 of a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001, at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City with Reverend Jeff Werda officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City with Military Rites provided by the Coralville American Legion Walter Johnson Post #721. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service. A memorial fund has been established in David Vickroy’s name.

Mr. Vickroy was born June 14, 1964, in Iowa City, the son of David M.E., Sr. and Norma J. Keefer Vickroy. He graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1983. He graduated from MMI in Phoenix, Arizona. David married Rebecca Gaines on September 20, 1998 at the First Assembly of God Church in Iowa City.

He was involved in the Royal Rangers and then became a leader of the Royal Rangers through the church. David was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Iowa City. He belonged to the Christian Motorcycle Association, and was a minister of The Christian Crusaders Motorcycle Ministries. He was a member of a Messianic Jewish Synagogue in Florida. David attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Iowa City. He was a leader for Youth For Christ. He was a member of the Big Brother/Big Sister Program in Iowa City. He was also a Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and held several lower belts in other martial art fields.

David’s family includes his wife, Rebecca; his parents of Iowa City, two brothers, Robert and Rita Vickroy of North Augusta, SC and Richard Vickroy of Iowa City; three sisters and their husbands, Kathy and Butch Mills of Ozone, TN, Susan and Dan Westen of Iowa City and Lisa and Richard Sandy of Guyman, OK. Several nieces and nephews are included.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, Daniel Vickroy Sr. and his grandparents.
