George L. White, 83, of Wellman, formerly of Iowa City, died, Monday, December 3 at Parkview Manor in Wellman, following a brief illness.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2001 at Gay & Ciha Funeral & Cremation Service with visitation one hour before the service.

Mr. White was born December 30, 1917 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Dorrance and Mabel White. His family moved to Iowa City in 1930 where George remained a resident until entering Parkview Manor in January 2001.

He was a graduate of Iowa City City High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Iowa State Historical Society. George cared for his aging parents in their home for many years.

His family includes, two sisters, Evelyn of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Roberta and her husband Robert Bruce of Millbrae, California; two nieces, Vicki and her husband Joe Mayne and Roberta “Fox” Fehling of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; two nephews and their wives Owen and Louise Bruce and Vernon and Phateria Bruce of California; two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Diane Mayne and a great-nephew Michael Bruce. His loved ones include his friends and guardians Eric and Missy Aitchison of Iowa City.

His parents and brother in law Fred Fehling preceded him in death.
