Betty J. Conklin, 81 of Iowa City, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at her home after a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held 7 pm Monday, January 29. 2007 at Lensing Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The family will greet friends from 5- 7 pm at Lensing’s. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association or First Christian Church.

Betty was born August 29, 1925 the daughter of Forest M. and Hazel A. (Rooker) McCleary. She married Clarence “Bozo” Conklin on May 7, 1949. Betty worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital for over thirty years, retiring from Mercy in 1987. Betty enjoyed traveling, knitting, crosswords and jigsaws, but her greatest love was her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; Dr. Jeffrey (Debra) Conklin of Los Angeles, CA, Jerry (Trudy) Conklin of North Liberty, IA, Jill (Mark) Bentley of Iowa City, IA, Julie (Doug) Schendt of McKinney, TX. She is survived by her grandchildren, Ross, Erin, Kent, Clint, Adam, Kelsey and Zachery.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers.
