James “Jimmy” Daniel Bowton age 37 of Des Moines and formerly of Coralville died on Thursday April 25. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City; burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in Jimmy’s name may be given to Regina High School and may be sent to Regina at 2150 Rochester Ave. Iowa City, Iowa 52245 or sent to Hills Bank 1009 2nd St. Coralville, Iowa 52241. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Jimmy and his family.
Jimmy was born on January 5, 1965 in Kirksville, Missouri the son of Terry and Sandra (Gates) Bowton. He attended Regina High School in Iowa City, Muscatine and Kirkwood Community Colleges. Jimmy was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City and worked as a lead manager for Greyhound Transportation Services in Des Moines. Jimmy loved all sports and was active in Baseball, Football and Basketball through High School and College.
His family includes a daughter TaShawna Jackson of Des Moines; father Terry and wife Linda of Coralville; mother Sandra Rupnow of Ames; sisters Susan and Michael Young of Frisco, Texas, Teresa and Christopher Suchomel of Iowa City; Uncles; Daniel and Janet Bowton of Mahomet, Illinois; Rick Gates of Marengo, Iowa; Steve and Lori Gates of Decorah, Iowa; Aunts, Marge and Marion Hopkins of Abingdon, Illinois; Linda and Tom Kamp of LeClaire, Iowa, Rita and Gary Huysman of North Liberty, Iowa and Julie Gates of Phoenix, grandparents; James and Annetta Bowton of Abingdon, Illinois and Ladye A. Gates of Marengo; four nephews Ethan and Evan Suchomel and Henry and Samuel Young, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Maynard Gates and stepfather Allan Rupnow.
