Elsie E. Brack, age 89 formerly of 2010 H. Street, Iowa City died Monday, May 20, 2002 at a care center in Clinton, Iowa following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2002 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend James Vrba officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary will be said at 4pm and a parish vigil service at 6pm. Memorial Donations can be made in Elsie’s memory to Mercy Hospice of Clinton @ 638 South Bluff, Clinton, Iowa 52732. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Elsie’s services and her family.

Elsie was born March 6, 1913 in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of William and Mary Etta (Oathout) Lehman. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City. On February 13, 1937, she married Clement “Tony” Brack in Iowa City. For over twenty years, she worked at the local Sears Store, retiring in 1983. She has lived in the Iowa City area her entire life before moving to Clinton in May of 2000 to be near her daughter and her family.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City, Rebekah Lodge #416, Past Member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Catholic Naim Club, Mercy Guild Volunteer, St. Patrick’s Needleworkers, and St. Wenceslaus Church Altar and Rosary Society.

Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Donna Jean and Dr. James Cherveny of Clinton, three grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Deb Cherveny, Jamie and Curt Burkhart, Tony and Holly Cherveny; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Taylor, Tracy, Leah, Ashley, and Jake; sister, Marietta Beuter of Solon, and her sister-in-law, Laurena Lehman of Iowa City.

Her parents, husband, Tony in November of 1979, daughter, Judy; and four brothers preceded Elsie in death.
