Edythe “Edie” L. Bruns, 79 of 385 Bonaire, Iowa City died Friday, November 30, 2001 at Greenwood Manor, Iowa City following an extended illness. Services will be
11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4 at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hope United Methodist Church or to Iowa City Hospice.

Mrs. Bruns was born September 19, 1923 to John and Cora (Kelly) Shull in Bancroft, Iowa. She married Delwin Bruns, Sr. on September 9, 1939 in Milford, Iowa. They lived in Milford, Indianola, Fonda, and DeWitt before moving to Iowa City in 1992. She was a member Hope United Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the DeWitt Community Counsel and was responsible for developing the community day care.

Survivors include: daughters, Deanna and her husband Jim Heppler of Houston, Texas, and Betty Bruns-Anderson of Iowa City; sons, Robert and his wife Julie Bruns of Iowa City, Dan and his wife Lisa Bruns of Iowa City, Ernest and his wife Barbara Bruns of Chillicothe, Illinois, Delwin, Jr. and his wife Jerri Bruns of East Peoria, Illinois, and John and his wife Karon Bruns of Davenport, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Shull of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delwin , Sr.; granddaughter, Carrie; grandson, Nathan; and three sisters.

Edie was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She also loved poetry and wrote very beautiful words. Everyone will miss her very much.
