Bernice R. Kriz, 81, of Iowa City died peacefully at Crestview Care Center in West Branch Thursday, December 7, 2006.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10am
St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7pm Monday
At Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Vigil Service will be held at
6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Bernice was born July 23, 1925 in Iowa City, the daughter of Albert and Genevieve Wonick Tesar. She was a graduate of City High School. Bernice was united in marriage to Edward Kriz on December 3, 1946.

Bernice and her husband had owned and operated George’s Buffet, prior to his death. She later was employed by UIHC, Dutch Way Cleaners and had cooked at local sororities, including Chi Omega.

Bernice was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Coralville American Legion Auxiliary. She was a loving mother who enjoyed the time spent with her family and grandchildren. Bernice crocheted and made afghans for family members.

Bernice is survived by her son, Tom (Laurie) Kriz of Iowa City; five grandsons,
Nick, Ben, Zach, Tim and Brett; one great granddaughter, Samantha; and Jeff Towne, who was raised by Bernice’s mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Steven and her step-father
Nick Lutgen.
