Joyce Dobson, 88

With her family at her side, Joyce Anderson Dobson, 88, died at her home Wednesday evening, Dec. 6, 2006, after a year of declining health.

A native of Iowa City, IA, Joyce and her husband Dave settled in Chapel Hill in 1955 when he joined the faculty of UNC School of Dentistry. Soon safter, she organized and became active in the Dental Wives' Club. Joyce loved her role as homemaker, pursuing her hobbies, talents, and watching her birds in later years. Her greatest joy was having her family close by.

A widow since 1989, survivors include a son, David & wife, Sara and daughter, Pamela of Chapel Hill; sisters Loretta Patterson & Lorna Negus of Iowa City; brother John Anderson of Arlington, TX; and aunt Gertrude Owen also of Iowa City. Others include granddaughter Jill Addison of Durham; grandsons Jim Addison & wife Lindsay of Cary, Steven Dobson of Charlotte, Joel Dobson of Chapel Hill; great-grandchildren David & Caroline Dobson, Evan Addison and close family friend Dan Cook of Chapel Hill.

The family wishes to thank Janet Beasley, Mia Lawrence and Marie Watlington for the compassionate care they gave during the past year.

Following a graveside service on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 pm at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, the family will be at the home of David & Sara Dobson, 200 Chesley Lane, Chapel Hill, NC.
