Dewey F. Petersen, 79, formerly of Coralville, now of Tipton, died December 7, 2006 at UIHC following a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday December 11, 2006 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave. Rev. David Lorenzen will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville with Military Honors provided by the Coralville American Legion Walter Johnson Post #721. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the funeral home from 1-3:00 P.M. Memorials can be made out to 1st United Church of Christ, Tipton, IA or American Lung Association.

Dewey was born on December 17, 1926 in Atalissa, IA to Abner and Bernice Paul Petersen. He married Lorraine Martin on June 20, 1948, she passed away on September 26, 1995.

Dewey served in the Navy during WWII, he returned to Tipton and opened Petersen Auto Parts and Petersen Body Shop. He then moved to Iowa City in 1963 and opened Dewey’s Auto Salvage, Dewey’s Wrecker/Crane, and Dewey’s Auto Sales. Dewey retired in 1980 and started driving a bus for the city of Coralville transit. He worked there till 2004. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose and the VFW. During retirement Dewey loved to travel, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dewey is survived by his mother Tudi Petersen of Tipton, a son Mark Petersen (Donna) of Iowa City, a daughter Deb Boddicker (Gary) of Dana Point, CA, a sister Ditter Fields (Keith) of Tipton, a special friend Evelyn Sterner of Tipton, six grandchildren; Jayson (Lauren) Lanoue, Niki (Jon) Merritt, Keli and Holli Petersen, Caleb and Carson Boddicker, and two great grandchildren James and Savannah Merritt.

Dewey was preceded in death by his father, wife and a son Dennis.
