the St. Wenceslaus Church Addition or to Iowa City Hospice.

Al was born July 5, 1932 in Harper, Iowa, the son of Richard and Florence (Kephart) Kleinmeyer. He graduated from Keota High School in 1950. Al continued his education by receiving his medical technology training at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. In addition, Al studied in Chicago to become a registered cytologist. He worked for the VAMC for 35 years. During that time, he was also associated with Weiland Laboratories of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City’s Cross Laboratories, as well as Mercy Hospital.

On August 27, 1955, Al was married to Martha Weber at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek, of rural Harper, Iowa. Last year, with family and friends, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Following Al’s medical career, he established The Taxidermist Art Gallery and the International Art Exchange. He was an avid collector of antiques, wildlife art prints, and had a wide collection of sleigh bells. Al enjoyed bird and big game hunting, resulting in many hunting records and rewards.

Al was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, where he was a past President of the Parish Council and had served the church faithfully in many capacities and projects. He was a member of Iowa City Noon Rotary where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation. He was a member of the Quarterback Club, and was a great supporter of Regina High School, where he had served for 12 years as a past School Board President. Al was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially following the Iowa Hawkeye, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. In his younger years, he was actively involved with the Iowa City Little League program and the Iowa City Girls Softball League, as a successful coach of his children’s teams. But most important to Al was his devotion to his wife, his children and grandchildren. For Al there was no greater love than that of family and friends. He will be truly missed by all those he has touched.

Al is survived by his wife Martha, their four children; Mark (Julie) Kleinmeyer of Washington, IA; Tim Kleinmeyer (Theresa), Chris Kleinmeyer, Celeste (Tyler) Shoppa all of Iowa City, along with his eleven grandchildren; Matthew, Michael, Cara, Josh, Emily, Nicole, Alex, Claire, Caecilia, Emma Grace, and Katherine. He is also survived by two brothers, Charlie of Washington and Henry of Harper as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents.
