Kenneth William Hein, 78 of Iowa City died of complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Oct. 10, 2006 at Manor Care in Davenport, Iowa.

Ken donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine
A memorial service will be held at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City on Friday, Oct. 13 at 12:00pm.

Ken was born in Iowa City June 23, 1928 to Paul and Theresa VeDepo Hein. He attended Iowa City High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Ken was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Ken had the privilege of marrying Esther Leora Lehman on Sept. 16, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. They made their home in Iowa City, where he worked as a baker.

He is survived by his loving wife, one daughter, Gail (Mrs. Paul) Russ of Johnston and grandchildren Dan, Austin, Dusty (Susanna) Russ, Heidi (Mrs. Scott) Henkel and great grandson, Connor Henkel. He is also survived by one sister, Helen Kleinschmidt and one brother, Paul DeWayne Hein, both of Kalona. He is also survived by 26 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Robert L. and Leo V. Hein.
