Sharon Lee Markovich, 52, of 3348 Lower West Branch Road died at UIHC, Tuesday afternoon following a sudden heart ailment.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 11am at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 2675 E. Washington, Iowa City with Rev. John Caldwell and Rev. Maria Wiblin officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Sharon’s memory.

Sharon was born May 24, 1954 in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Orin and Lois Gillespie Schwanke. She was a 1972 graduate of North Shelby High School, Shelbyville, Missouri and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in 1975. On August 16, 1975 she married Peter Markovich at the Clarence Christian Church in Clarence, Missouri.

The Markovich’s moved to Iowa City three years ago from Bettendorf. Sharon
worked as a classroom aid at Hoover Elementary School in Bettendorf, where she was involved with educational programs for disabled and special needs children and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Sharon was employed by Heartland Express in the accounts receivable. Sharon was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she was a volunteer and member of the worship and stewardship committees.

Sharon was a caring individual with positive attitude and outgoing personality. Sharon was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister, whose love for children was apparent
through thefoster care program with “Healing the Children”. Her wonderful smile and laughter will be missed.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Peter of Iowa City and their three children,
Moises of Ames, Manuel and Lian, both of Iowa City; her parents, Orin and Lois Schwanke of Leonard, Missouri; three siblings, Alan (Sharon) Schwanke of Leonard, Missouri, Carl (Leslie) Schwanke of Houston, Texas and Patricia (Ray) Griffith of Novelty, Missouri; Eight nieces and nephews, Brandy, Jesse, Rachel, Daniel, Aaron, Ryan, Curt and Denise.
