Mary Christine Richey, 56, of 2717 E. Court Street died Monday, September 11, 2006 at UIHC following an extended illness.

Friends may call Thursday, September 14, 2006 from 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. A Prayer Service will be held Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1pm at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Panora, Iowa. Burial will be at West Cemetery in Panora. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Mary Christine was born January 17, 1950 in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Helen Kastner Richey. She was raised in Bagley, Iowa and graduated from Y-J-B Community Schools in 1968. Mary Christine and received her BA degree from the University of Iowa in 1972.

Mary Christine was employed at the University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory for over 30 years, where she began as a Laboratory Scientist in Virology in 1974. She transferred to the Air Quality Section in 1975. Mary eventually became the Asbestos Analysis Supervisor as well as Emergency Radiation Response Coordinator for the Laboratory and the State of Iowa. She loved her career and the friendships she had developed with her co-workers.

Mary Christine was an avid Iowa Hawkeye supporter. She volunteered as score keeper for the Prime Time League. She especially enjoyed the Hawkeye road trips she took to Maui and other destinations. Family, friends and time spent with Mac, her west highland terrier, were cherished moments throughout Mary Christine’s life.

Mary Christine is survived by her mother, Helen Richey of Bagley, Iowa and her three
brothers, Dennis (Jean) Richey of West Des Moines, Gary (Julie) Richey of Ames,
Tom (Susan) Richey of Gurnee, Illinois; five nieces, Michele, Andrea, Cathy, Emily
and Anna; four nephews, Matt, Colin, Jonny and Luke; and great nieces and nephews;
and Mac, her beloved pet and companion.

Mary Christine was preceded in death by her father, Harold.
