Dr. Owen B. Duffy IV, 68, of 209 Linden Court in Iowa City, died Friday, September 1, 2006 in his home following a long & courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:00 am at the Newman Center In Iowa City. With Reverend Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City with a parish rosary and vigil beginning at 7:00 p.m..
Burial will be in St. Jospeh Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice or The Newman Catholic Student Center.

Owen was born July 23, 1938 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Owen Brennan III and Margaret (Pastovich) Duffy. A graduate of Dowling High School, he went on to complete his B.A. in Social Work at Drake University. He obtained an M.A. in Clinical Psychology at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. In 1972, he completed his academic career at the University Of Iowa, where he received his Ed. S. and Ph.D. in Psychology. Owen married Jimmye L. Bond on August 26, 1961 in Des Moines.

He began his professional career as a Social Worker in Atlantic, Iowa. He worked as a staff Psychologist for the University of Iowa from 1964-1969. He was employed as a School Psychologist for Cedar county from 1969-1977. Notably, in 1973, Dr. Duffy was the first Psychologist to open a private practice in Iowa City. He subsequently opened a second practice in Cedar Rapids and consulted for Psychology Associates in the Quad Cities. In addition to his general clinical practice, his passion was working with cancer patients using Hypnosis to alleviate the negative effects of chemotherapy. He retired in June 2006.

Survivors include his wife Jimmye; daughters, Lisa Duffy & her husband Carl Shank of Iowa City and Jennifer Duffy & her husband Joseph C. Huseman III of Centerport, New York
brothers, Patrick Duffy & his wife Joann of Orange Park, Florida and David Duffy of Des Moines
grandchildren, Nathan, Jennifer & Natalie Shank, Lauren, Joseph Conrad IV and Kelly Huseman.;
several nieces & nephews; the family golden retriever, Sasha and the family cat, Misha.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents.
